DESCRIPTION/HISTORY

On sale with Bruce Greetham is this very rare W18 pre-war Mercedes-Benz 290 Tourer. Built in 1932 as a long chassis and shipped to Tanzania, East Africa, for the German Consul in Dar es Salaam.  It was abandoned in 1934 when Germany lost interest in African affairs. In 1987, it was shipped back to the UK shores, where it was then bought by Mr H, a collector of pre-war Mercedes.  It was then purchased by Mr S, an active Mercedes-Benz club owner to the present day. This was a specially built Vehicle with extras fitted for the Consul of its time. The engine starts instantly on the key and runs so quietly. The paintwork, from my observation, looks to be original, with a lovely patina around the exterior and interior. Beautiful Brown leather seats, front and back.

The History file still retains its original handbook and import papers, with many Historic receipts dating back. Everything matches on the chassis and engine numbers.

WHY BUY.

There is no better opportunity to own such a stunning, elegant pre-war Mercedes than this outstanding W18 Tourer. This can be one of only a few left available, and being an RHD, it's super rare. It has been used for rallies overseas with the MB Club events, so we know it works. Just had a full underbody Dry Ice program underneath and over £10,000 spent this year keeping it right.  This needs a special visit to fully appreciate this car. Call Bruce today to discuss and arrange an appointment to view.
