HISTORY.

On sale with Bruce Greetham Classic Benz Ltd is a very unique and special S123 series estate car with a 300 diesel engine.  This is a very rare find for one of these estate cars.  It was purchased in 1984 by the supplying dealer Lancaster Europa in Sheffield and has stayed with the owner ever since, near Doncaster.  The V5 states no previous owners, where it has been kept in his garage and only used when enjoyed. It was his last new Mercedes, as he had always owned Mercedes Motor cars all his life.  The History of this car and how it has been looked after is remarkable and will probably never be repeated in RHD, especially in the UK, and being a diesel engine.  The five-cylinder engine with non-turbo is a very rare find in an estate car; this will go and cover many millions of miles.  The five-speed manual, I feel, suits this better than an auto, as it is more practical and with the 5th gear it will cruise all day at motorway speeds.

The condition of this rare machine is staggering and in time warp condition inside and out. When you look around the bright work, it looks like it was fitted yesterday. The paintwork is beautiful with all matching paint, looking around, it hasn't seen a paint gun in forty years, which for a 123 series is hard to believe. The shut lines are perfect, and the clunk of the doors is typical 123.  Moving onto the interior, well, this is where you are breathless at the condition and staggered how an estate car can look this fresh, the carpets are brand new, with the boot compartment like the day it drove out of the dealer.  The wood pack is in dark, deep shine, and all switches and controls show orange and white decals, which are super sharp. The roof lining and sunroof are factory fresh, and so nice to witness. I was blown away when I saw this car and immediately thought this was a concours entrant and would probably come away with some silverware.  This demonstrates how nice this car is and something so special to own if you like this station wagon Mercedes from the 80s period.  It has had a cavity waxoyl injection from new with old factory stickers to the rear window. This, I feel, has preserved the car no end.

The service manual has the dealer stamps for a few years, and then it was maintained within his company, as he had a haulage business, which took care of it. The dark Red leather wallet is like new, and all books, manuals are present with spare keys dealer-supplied key ring, and a tax disc holder. The most interesting part of the history, all MOT certificates have been present since new alongside pretty much every one of the Tax discs all in order.

WHY BUY.

The question is, why would you not buy it, and what reason would you make an excuse not to? I have never seen an S123 estate that good apart from one that was fully restored at a cost of over £60'000 plus pounds. To own this car is a privilege as there won't be another for sale like this. It will come with new Tyres as the originals are present, full service, and an underbody clear coat waxoyl. The detailing program will take place over the coming weeks to fully enhance its condition.
