HISTORY.
For Sale at Bruce Greetham Classic Benz is an amazing R107 420 SL with an impeccable History that is hard to repeat. It was purchased new at the Malaya Mercedes-Benz dealer from 1.1.1988 until 1992. The second owner and current owner have enjoyed it since 1992. The service book demonstrates every service stamp since its collection. Malaya Mercedes stamps show until 1991, and Steve Redfern has serviced it every year to date without missing one. All repairs and receipts are backed up in the service binder alongside a very documented History of tax discs, all MOT certificates from day one. The Leather binder is as fresh as the day it was put in the car from 1988, with all spare keys to show.
This is an incredible car and can to displayed in any concours field without any hesitation and come away with some silverware. The soft top is as fresh as it was fitted with the MB logos into each plastic window, and all witness marks around the car display all original paintwork and factory markings. The Engine bay is so honest without any over detailing taking place, and a Bulkhead chamber as clean as the exterior paintwork.
The interior has had an upgraded steering wheel, which was sent back to Germany to have the wood inlay fitted to match the perfect burlwood console to the switch panel. The floor mats have always had over mats to protect the original carpets, which shows with a very fresh look and feel, and an almost new feel. The Hardtop is of the same calibre as the body work and is always stored correctly on a stand with a dust cover. The Boot carpet still shows the date markings on the underside carpet, and spare wheel fixing bolts are like new, which indicates a garage car and away from any poor weather. A truly remarkable example of a R107 420 SL. It can't be ignored in such an original car and beautiful condition with a History folder to fill anyone with confidence of a strict maintenance record since new.
ON THE ROAD.
When you drive these cars often, you can tell by the way it selects its gear by shifting the stick with a precise move, and a door that doesn't rattle when you close it. The indicator is tight, and the white decals are fresh. It drove down the road with elegance and style without a rattle or squeak. The period wood look radio has been restored twice to maintain its look and pinpoint operation. The gearbox changed without any issues, and a gentle push moves it into the kickdown mode, which opens up the V8 burble we all like to experience. This SL has experienced a few European road trips without any dramas, which shows how precise this 420 SL is.
